Trevor Crowe laying out for a fly ball with the Cleveland Indians in 2010.
Trevor Crowe was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the first round (14th overall) of the 2005 MLB Draft from the University of Arizona signing for $1,695,000. Crowe spent four seasons in the MiLB before making his MLB debut for the Indians in 2009. He spent four seasons in the Major Leagues, three for the Indians and another for the Astros. For someone who was drafted so early, Trevor has a great understanding for the struggles of the average Minor League player, having played with so many from 2005-2009. However, like most Big Leaguers, Trevor clarifies that the Minor Leagues are a necessary evil if you want to play in the MLB.
"Minor League pay is terrible. It’s common to have 4-6 players in 2-3 bedroom apartments. Do I think Minor Leaguers should earn more? Yes. However, I think the grind of the Minor Leagues is a great lesson for life. Life is difficult. Period. Pushing the message that life should always be fair and equal is dangerous. The real world, professional sports, and life, aren’t fair and equal. You don’t play Minor League Baseball for the money. You play it for the chance to play in the MLB. Period. At the end of the day the teams are giving you that chance, even if you’re paid terribly in the process."
